Follow these 5 lifestyle changes to prevent heart disease

The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases has increased in recent years and is one of the leading causes of death around the world. Nowadays, our health has taken a backseat to our fast-paced lives. Our way of living has radically changed as more people adhere to the hustle culture and disregard their health. The depleting health of people and the rise in heart disease are often attributed to lifestyle changes. Adopt healthy lifestyle changes to prevent heart disease.

Dr Anbu Pandian, Medical Advisor at Agatsa, tells Health Shots about some healthy tweaks you can incorporate in your everyday life to keep heart issues at bay.

Make these lifestyle changes for a healthy heart:

1. Healthy diet

A healthy and balanced diet is the best weapon against cardiovascular disease. Eat a diet that contains all the nutrients such as vitamins, iron, minerals and veggies while being low in calories. Heart disease can be greatly reduced through good eating habits. Switching to home-cooked meals is one of the easiest ways to follow a healthy diet.

2. Move more

A sedentary lifestyle has been a major contributor to heart disease. Extensive and prolonged working hours leave the individual with little time for exercise, resulting in a lethargic state. Therefore, it is recommended to do exercise after each short period of prolonged work or sitting. To strengthen body muscles, one should walk or exercise for an hour or 45 minutes each day under doctor’s supervision.

3. Quit smoking and alcohol to reduce risk of heart disease

Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption increase the risk of heart attacks. Studies have shown that smokers are more likely to suffer from heart attacks than non-smokers. Drinking and smoking are bad for health in any amount. Apart from deteriorating heart health, regular drinking and smoking also increase the risk factor for lung cancer, coronary artery disease, heart attack, and stroke.

4. Have a regular sleep pattern and Sufficient sleep

Maintain a regular sleep schedule and get enough sleep. In addition to a heart-healthy diet and giving up alcohol and smoking, sleep is essential for general well-being. People don’t get enough sleep these days. To feel rejuvenated and healthy, a person should get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep each day. Additionally, studies have shown that those who get enough sleep are less likely to get heart attacks, diabetes, high blood pressure, and depression.

5. Stress management

When under stress, people tend to overeat or drink. Everything in excess is bad. Individuals can reduce their stress by engaging in activities like meditation, exercise, and listening to music. Every little stress can lead to heart issues.

Keeping medical devices at home for remote and quick monitoring of heart ECG (12 lead ECG) helps in the early detection of heart disease and managing chronic conditions efficiently.
